Marshmallow
Published in Hardcover by Smithmark Publishing (February, 1999)
Author: Clare Turlay Newberry
Average review score:

MARSHMALLOW WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON!
When my Mother first wrote MARSHMALLOW, many people could not believe that an older bachelor cat (Oliver) would really adopt a baby bunny as his own, well, kitten. Because cats and rabbits were considered arch enemies, this story holds lessons for children on many levels, as well as featuring wonderful drawings from life of Oliver and his bunny, Marshmallow. Just as one of my Mom's verses reports: A bunny's a delightful habit, No home's complete without a rabbit.

Engaging story line and artwork.
Although my children are now grown, "Marshmallow" was their favorite book. We almost wore the library copy out and we later named our sweet white bunny, Marshmallow. The artwork is beautiful and engaging as well as the story line. So glad it will be re-published soon!! A "must buy" for my grandchildren.

Babette
Published in Hardcover by Smithmark Publishing (February, 1999)
Author: Clare Turlay Newberry

Babette and my Granddad--a true tale
Due to having a "one cat" apartment, after BABETTE had been completed, my mother took Babette to live with her own parents in Flint, MI. As Clare told the story, "At first, my rather taciturn father regarded Babette with skepticism and said','She looks like a weasel! Of course, my mother loved Babette. However, Babette had made up her mind to win Dad and followed him around, looking up at him as if to say 'You great big wonderful man!'

In a few days, I noticed Daddy edging over on his chair to make room for Babette. Before I'd left he'd get up in the middle of the night to make sure she was covered in her basket. I've just had a letter saying that he now takes her walking on a leash, and doesn't care a whoop what the neighbors think of that!"

Both Babette and Mittens spent their retirement years living with my grandparents in their cozy little house. I am glad BABETTE is newly printed--even if it is listed as "out of print," it is brand-new.

read this you'll love Siamese Cats
I first read this over 30 years ago when I was six. It made me want a siamese cat. I have lived with a succession of them from age 16 onwards. The illustrations are still with me now. hurry up and reprint it, I'm sure Im not the only onewaiting to buy it.

Classic Book with Beautiful Illustrations
I first became familiar with Clare Newberry's books a couple of years ago when a lady came into the Barnes & Noble store where I work looking for 'Babette,' which was read to her as a little girl (at least some 40 years prior). At that time, the book was still out of print, but for some reason, this lady's request stuck in my mind.

I was very excited when I saw that 'Babette' and other Newberry titles had been reissued and were on display in our store. I love cats, and the charcoal illustrations in these books are simply precious (I have made my coworkers sick, gushing over them as I do!). I figure any book that someone will actively seek out after 40 or more years is a bona fide gem. I have since collected all of Newberry's cat books (Smudge, Mittens, April's Kittens...). Young cat & kitten lovers will especially prize these beautiful books!

The Next Big Thing Is Really Small: How Nanotechnology Will Change the Future of Your Business
Published in Hardcover by Crown Pub (11 March, 2003)
Authors: Jack Uldrich and Deb Newberry
Average review score:

Small is big
A country with just 8000 cars, 144 miles of paved road, where 95 % of births occur at home, life expectancy is forty-seven years, just 6 % of the population has graduated from high school, pneumonia and influenza are leading causes of death. Fortunately, this is history, about a hundred years old and this country is called The United States of America. A child attending primary school, reading this story would think that her grand parents were very close to the Stone Age. If one can comprehend the rapid changes and improvement in our life styles in the twentieth century, when we could even put a man on the moon and bring him back safely to earth, relax, the best is yet to come.

This book would have sounded like science fiction a decade ago and had it been published in the early half of the last century, the authors would have certainly been prosecuted for misleading the public, the fate suffered by Lee De Forest (father of the radio) in 1913, for his "outlandish claims". Today, we are on the verge of a major technological revolution that is likely to dislodge major industries in their present form. Nanotechnology, from its humble beginnings at IBM's research labs in 1989 is poised to be the next big disruptive technology invading all aspects of our life.

This book, after explaining the concepts of nanomanipulation is structured well to explain the possible applications, present and future and its impact on business. Nanotechnology is the true culmination and convergence of most streams of science - Agriculture, biology, chemistry, computing, physics, mathematics, medicine, and the like. At the atomic level it appears, the differences fade away.

Now our young friend in the primary school would add nanotechnology as an essential subject in her education, so that she would not be considered illiterate a decade from now. "Because in many ways nanotechnology is not just going to be he next big thing...it is going to be everything" concludes this book.

This book is also small in size. Small, but superb.

Finally a Book for the People!
"Finally, a nanotechnology book that speaks to the people and defines how this technology will affect their lives. This book is a 'must read' for corporate executives, human resource directors, education professionals, high school and university career counselors and the public. The overview breaks down the complexity of nanotechnology explaining how it is 'already' changing a variety of businesses with descriptive examples relating to products that are in the marketplace 'NOW', while including a roadmap to the future products through 2013. However, Uldrich does not stop there, but proceeds to describe the disruptive implications in the marketplaces concerning the current service industries and products that may be displaced. By concluding each chapter with a list of 'nanopoints' developed to encourage long range planning and assessment, this book becomes an excellent business tool. The bottom line is that nanotechnology is here NOW, and Uldrich manages to take it out of the science fiction realm by showing the audience real applications in current products. It will only become more pronounced in the future. Can you afford 'NOT' to be prepared?

The Next Big Thing is Really Small: How Nanotechnology Will
When I first saw the title of Jack Uldrich's new book I thought "Here we go again ... another book that over-hypes the promise of nanotechnology." Much to my surpise, the book is well researched, thoughtful and takes a surprisingly realistic -- and decidedly business-like -- approach to the emerging field of nanotechnology. Uldrich explains what nanotechnology is, why it is important and outlines in a systematic and easy-to-understand manner how nanotech will impact (and disrupt) a wide variety of businesses within specified time frames. I particularly enjoyed the final chapter, where he outlines how the best technology does not always win in the marketplace ... it is a message that people who are hoping to strike it rich by investing in nanotech should read twice.

A Living Bay: The Underwater World of Monterey Bay
Published in Paperback by University of California Press (02 October, 2000)
Authors: Lovell Langstroth, Libby Langstroth, Todd Newberry, and Monterey Bay Aquarium
Average review score:

An Incredible Accomplishment!
I'm an avid Monterey Area scuba diver who was on the verge of thinking I knew something about Monterey marine life. That was before I read this book. Despite my many hundreds of dives and many hours of time spent studying the things I'd seen this book opened my eyes to all sorts of things I'd never noticed before. Anybody interested in west coast marine life simply must have this book.

One of it's best features is the novel organization. It's broken up into habitat areas rather than by Phylum/Genus/Species etc. This really helps the reader understand the relationships between the various organisms. Also the photographs are truly exceptional.

Overall a real gem.

Extraordinary! The beach will never look the same to you.
An exceptional book. Those tar spots on the beach, those yucky lumps of rotting kelp, those minor shellfish will all become fascinating interacting worlds for you. Beautiful photos that excite and succinct explanations that educate in a package that could well be an excellent coffee table book. We should all hope that this is what all nature books would become. I recommend this book to anyone interested in ocean life (not just Monterey Bay).

I am giving this book out as gifts to friends and relatives.

Wonderful combination of marine bio and great photos
This book provides many many photographs of marine organisms found in Monterey Bay (California coast). The photographs are clear, well-reproduced, and organisms are identified by common and Latin name. This alone would be a good reason to buy the book. However, the authors went beyond excellent photography into detailed marine biology. For every organism, they provide fascinating details from the biology of the organism, often supplemented with additional photographs illustrating the phenomenon being described. I have taught chemistry, biology, and marine biology at the high school level, as well as being a SCUBA diver; I found this book to be full of new and fascinating information, well presented and carefully documented, with scientific sources cited (but not obnoxiously). I loaned this book to two high school students, one fascinated with marine biology, one not so fascinated, and they were both enthralled: "that book is so cool!" "did you know anemones fight?" One of the best books on the ocean environment I've ever seen; clearly a labor of love on the part of the authors.

Texas Golf: The Best of the Lone Star State

Texas golfers must
This book has been a great help and a pleasure to thumb through. I just wish there was a newer version.

A must-buy book for every golfer in the state of Texas
A very comprehensive review and rating of 400+ golf courses from the Colonial country club to the Falfurrias,Tx muni!! If you've ever played a round of golf in Texs, your course is probably listed and rated. Excellent descriptions of the top 300.A few minor errors like calling Hole No.1 of the Woodlands TPC No.13, and a photo of a hole on Portland's Northshore CC which isn't there. But a big bang for your $$$$$ , and a true collector's item, or coffee table book.

Beautiful and comprehensive.
This book is one of the most complete books ever written on golf in the state; one part photo album, one part history book and one part travel guide. A large book with a large attitude.

Herbert the Lion
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (June, 1956)
Author: Clare Turlay Newberry
Average review score:

Great read aloud!
I recently discovered the author Clare Turlay Newberry and am thrilled and excited about her work. Herbert the Lion is a delightful story about a little girl and her lion and all of the obstacles that they go through. At first I was worried that the illustrations would not grasp my kindergarten students' attention because of it's lightness. Was I WRONG! They absolutely loved the illustrations and story line and I lost count of how many times we reread this book, as well as other books by Newberry. You must read this book and other books by Newberry.

THE LITTLE GIRL WHO WANTED A PET LION
As a child, my Mother really longed for a pet lion and when she grew up she wrote this children's story about a little girl whose wish for a lion comes true. The original book and illustrations have been faithfully copied by Smithmark Publishers as part of their series, CLARE NEWBERRY CLASSICS..

The Newberry Reference Bible, Black
Published in Paperback by Kregel Publications (30 September, 2000)
Author: Thomas Newberry
Average review score:

One tremendous Bible
When I purchased the Newberry Bible I was so impressed with it that I stopped using the New American Standard (1977) and switched to the King James Version. This Bible, when used in conjunction with the Companion Bible by Bullinger, the Cambridge Reference Bible, and the New Analytical Bible (Dickson) truly provide a wealth of information.

I believe that a true study Bible should provide you with information and not tell you what to believe. These three Bibles do this and have become the starting place for all my studies. I recommend the Newberry Reference interleaved edition because the alternating blank pages provide plenty of space for taking notes. The paper is thin, so don't write too hard!

Thomas Newberry's efforts are amazing, but I just wish he had done every word in the Bible, not just the selected ones.

If you really want to learn about what God has said, BUY THIS BOOK!

Newberry Reference Bible
This is the reference bible for scholars and people interested in the real truth. As we all know the King James Version of the bible was translated from either Greek/Hebrew or chaldee. While the scholars of the day were very intelligent and able. They were prone to error as any man or woman might be. The Newberry is an attempt (a very good one) to allow you to observe the true literal retranslations of the actual texts based on translations from a concordance. They are embedded within the writing of the Newberry right where the word would be found. It makes no attempt to try to persuade you to any type of belief system. Rather it displays the actual re-translation of text right on the page. Beware however...if you are looking to prove false doctrine you may find yourselves at odds with this book. It may even change the way you perceive your faith. You will find that it is a wonderful study tool as well as an indespensible tool for putting your teachings together. If you strive to find the real truth you will need this book.

The Piazza Tales (The Northwestern-Newberry Edition of the Writings of Herman Melville)
Published in Paperback by Northwestern University Press (November, 1996)
Authors: Herman Melville, Harrison Hayford, Alma A. MacDougall, and G. Thomas Tanselle
Average review score:

The Lighting-Rod Man
The Lighting-Rod Man is one of Melville's lesser known stories. Despite the cold, dark setting, it is more comical than most of his works other works. This satire tells about one door-to-door salesman, and how annoying, pushy, and arrogant he was to his perspective customer (Doesn't seem like a lot has change since then), and how he ends up getting thrown out of the house.
The story The Lighting-Rod Man jumps right into the story in the first paragraph and just goes, which makes it much easier to get into and a much easier read for those that have a hard time getting started reading. I feel that it is worthy buying The Piazza Tales even if you just read this one story let alone the five other stories.

brillaint and terrifying
Put simply, this is the best collection of short stories by any American author.

Success Is Not an Accident!: Change Your Choices, Change Your Life
Published in Paperback by Looking Glass Books (January, 1999)
Author: Tommy Newberry
Average review score:

One of the VERY BEST books on personal development
I sell 1500 audio visual training products and 1000 book titles from the worlds leading authors such as Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn etc etc. I have therefore listened to about 200 tape programmes and read about 90 books on success, in the last few years.

I recomend very few books as most are rehashed versions of classic authors such as Napolean Hill, Robert Allen etc etc.

This book by Tommy Newberry, is rehashed material. There is nothing new or mind blowing in this book. When reading it you will read Zig, Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, N Hill, Maxwell Maltz etc.

What makes this book very very good is the way he brings you to conclusions, without you realising you have done it. An example; I have always struggled trying to set goals, usually the authors get you to brainstorm, pick a few suggestions and use them as goals. Newberry doesn't mention picking goals until chapter 3. By chapter 3, with your assignment work from the prevoius 2 chapters, the author has brought you to the right conclusions so you can EASILY set your 3 year goals.

His approach is brilliant, each chapter builds up to the next one, so logical are the conclusions, you never have to jump a massive mental valley to find answers to the questions posed in the assignments at the end of each chapter.

The author brilliantly takes you several steps futher than a mere goal setting book, he teaches you the basic fundementals of Physco Cybernetics and Visualisation. If you study success/goal setting and have failed in the past to get results, it will be down to the fact you have not reprogammed your "servomechanism" as in Physco Cybernetics/Visualisation. This book teaches you what other goal setting books do not, combing Maxwell Maltz's Cybernetics to Lee Pulos's work on visualisation.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would because this book has got it all. The only thing it does not have is an author who loves himself, and loves telling his audience how great he is. A refreshing change from some other authors!

HIGHLY RECOMENDED

A Handbook for the Super Achiever!
Tommy Newberry's Success Is Not An Accident is the handbook for the super-successful entering the 21st century. Read this book, incorporate its timeless principles into your life and, as Tommy says, "Think Huge!"

Awesome, clear concise and straightforward!
The title of this says it all. Tom Mewberry provides a very clear, concise, easy to follow roadmap to achieve success. His approach is a no nonsense, easy to understand style. I recommend this book to all people who want to improve themself, their family life, business, spiritual life, or any thing in between. If 10 stars could be given, this would definately be 10+
